Voice-to-Text Typing

Type hands-free on any website using your voice. ChromePilot transcribes speech to text and inserts it directly into any input field instantly.

Voice-to-Text Typing lets you type with your voice on any webpage across the entire internet. Instead of manually typing out long emails, detailed messages, search queries, or form responses, you can simply dictate your thoughts naturally. ChromePilot uses advanced AI-powered speech recognition to intelligently transcribe your spoken words and insert the resulting text directly into any active input field—instantly and accurately.

How to Get Started with Voice Typing

1. Enable the Feature: First, open your ChromePilot Extension Settings and ensure that the "Voice Keyboard" toggle is switched ON.

2. Locate an Input Field: Hover your mouse over any text input, text area, search box, or content-editable field on any webpage.

3. Start Recording: Click the orange microphone icon that automatically appears floating near the focused input field.

4. Speak Naturally: Dictate your text clearly into your microphone. Speak at a natural pace—the AI handles punctuation and formatting intelligently.

5. Stop and Insert: Click the red stop button when finished (or click the discard button to cancel if you made a mistake). After a brief processing moment, your transcribed text is automatically inserted at your cursor position—ready to send or submit.

Popular Use Cases for Voice-to-Text Typing

Long-Form Writing & Emails: Dictate lengthy emails, detailed blog post drafts, forum responses, and social media captions effortlessly—without tiring your hands or slowing down your creative flow.

Productive Multitasking: Keep your hands free for other tasks while filling out web forms, adding quick notes, replying to messages, or entering search queries using only your voice.

Improved Accessibility: A more accessible, inclusive way to interact with any website—especially valuable when typing on a physical keyboard is difficult due to mobility limitations, repetitive strain, or when you're unsure about the spelling of complex or technical words.

Troubleshooting Voice-to-Text Issues

The microphone icon doesn't appear

Verify that the Voice Keyboard is toggled ON in the extension settings. The microphone icon only appears when you hover directly over a valid, editable text field, text area, or search box. It will not appear over non-editable content or read-only elements.

Microphone Permission Error

If you see an error about microphone access, ensure your browser has been granted permission to securely access your device's microphone. You can manage these permissions by clicking the lock or "site settings" icon next to your URL address bar and enabling microphone access for the page.

Empty or Incorrect Transcription

Check your computer's microphone input volume levels in system settings, speak clearly at a moderate pace, and ensure you are in a relatively quiet environment with minimal background noise. Additionally, verify that your API Key is configured properly in the ChromePilot extension settings.

"Please set your API Key" Message

Voice-to-text transcription requires an active API connection. Open the ChromePilot extension popup, navigate to settings, and ensure your API key is correctly pasted and saved.
